According to the latest statistics from the Maldives Tourism Department, as of September 13, a total of 800,000 tourists have visited the maldives this year, an increase of 104.4% from the same period last year. The Maldives tourism Department revealed that August saw the highest number of tourist arrivals at 143,599. At present, more than 4,000 foreign tourists enter China every day.
In a recent study released by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), 1.4 million tourists are expected to visit the Maldives in 2022. India is now the main source of tourists to the Maldives, accounting for 22.4 per cent of total arrivals this year. Russia followed with 20.4 per cent of arrivals this year. However, the tourism industry will still face risks and challenges due to the multiple uncertainties of COVID-19.
